About the Department
Head – Genetics and Biotechnology
The Department of Genetics and Biotechnology was established at the Ivan Franko National University of Lviv in 1976. At the department there are: Research Laboratory of Genetics, Selection and Genetic Engineering of Producers of Biologically Active Compounds – NDL-42; Collection of cultures of microorganisms – producers of antibiotics, included in the State Register of scientific objects that are the national heritage of Ukraine; Collection of Drosophila genetic lines.
Among the main areas of research of the department: Genetics and biotechnology of industrial microorganisms; Drosophila genetics; Genotoxicology; Nanobiotechnology: Methods of teaching genetics and biotechnology in secondary and higher education.
